Raising Awareness of Cardiovascular Health

Heart Smart is a 1000 square foot English, Spanish and Haitian Creole museum exhibition. It emphasizes adopting healthy lifestyle habits, specifically, good nutrition, physical activity, and stress management. Heart Smart is aimed at raising awareness about risk factors and offers strategies to improve personal health. Its interactive components engage visitors by having them take simple personal measurements (e.g., blood pressure, height, weight, waist size, and self-reported health habits) and providing them with personalized feedback.

To date, there have been about 53,000 visitors and 80% have consented to contribute personal data to research.

Heart Smart is a collaboration between the University of Miami, Department of Psychology, and the Miami Science Museum. The project serves museum visitors and Miami-Dade County Public School students and teachers.
