Most of our faculty still practice, so they understand your demanding workload and will be there to support you!
Monica Coley has vast teaching and health informatics experience. She is an Integration Strategist at a heath information technology and consulting company. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and studied Public Health with a concentration in Health Policy and Administration. In addition, she attended graduate school at Emory University and majored in Public Health with a concentration in Health Care Outcomes Management.
Judith Elfont, JD
Judith Elfont is the Deputy Director of the Florida Department of Health in Broward County. Her passion for educating and ensuring the public’s good health, coupled with her belief in communal awareness and involvement, can be seen in her activities outside the FDOH. A graduate of the University of Miami (BBA,JD), she is a lecturer for the university’s School of Nursing and Health Studies, where she translates her 20 years of experience into an exploration of the leadership role of health care professionals in health policy development and implementation.
Steven Gerst, MD, MBA, MPH, CHE
Dr. Gerst is the Chief Medical Informatics Officer of Telemetrix Systems, LLC which holds the contract with ADT to develop their Remote Patient Monitoring business worldwide and is a Principal and Founder of Asclepius Life Sciences Fund L.P., a Cayman Islands activist Hedge Fund which invests private equity and venture capital in biotech and biopharmaceutical ventures. He is one of the original founding investors in Variant Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and serves on its Scientific Advisory Board as well as previously serving as Chief Medical Officer of Arc Devices, Ltd.
Dr. Gerst also serves as an “Entrepreneur in-Residence” at the Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami, in the Office of the Vice Provost and Chief Innovation Officer as well as Lecturer in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Ronaldo Montmann, MBA
Ronaldo Montmann is the Vice President of Information Technology for Broward Health System, one of the top ten largest public healthcare systems in the nation. Montmann is responsible for the implementation and management of enterprise level application systems (both clinical and business oriented applications), technology infrastructure, telecommunications, mobile application development, data security, PACS, and customer services across all domains of the Information Technology (I.T.) Department. Montmann joined Broward Health seventeen years ago after holding innumerous management and system analyst positions with various Fortune 500 companies in the U.S and abroad for over thirty-two years.
At Broward Health, Montmann has built a medical grade network which supported the progressive adoption of an electronic health record system for both the acute care and ambulatory settings. Broward Health has achieved the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) level 6 designation at a time when less than 10% of all hospitals in the United States had achieved such a level of automation. Through his leadership, Broward Health has been in the forefront of technology innovation.
Montmann is an MBA graduate from Nova Southeastern University, and received his BA from Trinity International University. Möntmann is a CHIME certified Healthcare CIO (CHCIO); a certified project management professional (PMP), a Lean Six Sigma – Black Belt (LSS), an ITIL, and ISACA’s Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) certified professional. He is presently a member of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME).
Doris Peek, PHD
Dr. Doris Peek currently serves as the Chief Information Officer and Senior Vice President of North Broward Hospital District. She was named a 2014 Premier 100 IT Leaders honoree by International Data Group’s Computerworld and was listed in 131 women hospital leaders to know by Becker’s Hospital Review in 2015.
Catherine N. Turner, MBA, BSN, RN-BC
Catherine Turner is a leader in the nursing informatics community. She has over a decade of experience as a licensed registered nurse in both the acute and outpatient settings. SHe received her MBA from Plymouth State University (Plymouth, NH) and her certification in nursing informatics from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She earned her BSN at the College of St. Teresa (Winona, MN), affiliated with the Mayo Clinic hospitals (Rochester, MN).
Martin M. Zdanowicz, PhD, Med, MA
Dr. Martin Zdanowicz currently serves as the Associate Dean for Health Studies and Professor in the School of Nursing and Health Studies. He holds membership in a number of professional societies and has published four textbooks and numerous peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Zdanowicz was voted the Teacher of the Year eight times at three different institutions.
